Keynote Speaker - Junu Dimdung
Junu Dimdung is a Grade 12 scholarship student from Nepal who arrived at Shawnigan in 2017. Well into her second year in Canada, Junu continues to be an enthusiastic and insightful addition our community and culture. Before joining Shawnigan, Junu was a student at Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School (SMD) in Nepal, a school that provides free education, healthcare and shelter for the destitute Himalayan children of Nepal.
Junu was fortunate enough to receive education, healthcare and shelter at SMD and graduated following her Grade 10 year in 2015.
Reflecting on the gift of education she had received from SMD, Junu then chose to take two gap years to give back to SMD. During her first year of volunteering, she taught at her school founder’s nunnery, and followed this with a year of teaching junior grades as a homeroom teacher at SMD. In addition to teaching, she was also involved in volunteering at the orphanage and at a centre for people with disabilities, and by acting as a translator for foreign social workers helping Nepali communities in Kathmandu. As she loves learning languages, Junu also volunteered to teach basic Korean to any interested SMD students during the weekends.
Junu and Shawnigan Lake Model UN are pleased to share that the proceeds that would ordinarily be allocated to our Keynote Speaker are being directed to SMD.
